Ephraim was born in 1786 in , , N.C.. Ephraim's father was Francis Winstead and his mother was Catherine. His paternal grandparents were Samuel Winstead and Winifred. He had three brothers and a sister, named Ezekiel, Francis, Matthew and Sarah. He was the youngest of the five children. He died before 1842 in Of, Hawkins, Tennessee.-
