John Simmons 
John was born in 1834 in , Hawkins, Tennessee. John's father was James G. Simmons and his mother was Sarah Gillenwater. His paternal grandparents were James Simmons and Elizabeth Gillenwaters; his maternal grandparents were Thomas Gillenwater and Mary Mallory Wilkins. He had four brothers and five sisters, named Thomas, James, William, Clay, Mary, Nancy, Rachel, Martha and Sarah. He was the second oldest of the ten children.-
