Willana Wilma was born about 1766 in , Botecourt, Virginia. Willana Wilma's father was Joshua Phipps and her mother was Hester Aston. Her paternal grandparents were Joseph Phipps and Elizabeth. She had a brother and three sisters, named William, Deborah, Sarah Erwin and Elizabeth. She was the oldest of the five children.
