Nicholas was born on April 24th, 1856 in , Hawkins, Tennessee. Nicholas' father was John H. Pearson and his mother was Minerva Greene. His paternal grandparents were Lawrence Pearson and Elizabeth Devault; his maternal grandparents were William Greene and Ruth Slaton. He had three brothers and four sisters, named William Eldridge, George Anderson, James M., Elizabeth Jane, Rowena, Liza Ruth and Mary Catherine. He was the third youngest of the eight children.-
