Robert Edward was born in 1843. Robert Edward's father was Robert Edward Lee General and his mother was Mary Ann Randolph Custis. His maternal grandparents were George Washington Parke Custis and Mary Lee Fitz Hugh. He had two brothers and four sisters, named George Washington Custis, William Henry Fitz Hugh, Mary Custis, Ann Carter, Eleanor Agnes and Mildred Childe.
