Rebecca was born in 1791 in North Carolina. Rebecca's father was Robert Jossey and her mother was Mary Pitman. Her paternal grandparents were James Jossey and Margaret Or Peggy Whitaker; her maternal grandparents were Samuel Pitman and Mary Lane. She had six brothers and two sisters, named Cary, Henry, James, John W., Robert M., Samuel, Elizabeth and Harriet.-
