Sarah Amanda was born on May 15th, 1825 in , Of Sullivan, Tennessee. Sarah Amanda's father was Philip Smith Hale and her mother was Elizabeth Bachman. Her paternal grandparents were Philip Heale and Catherine Douglas. She had three brothers and nine sisters, named Nathan Bachman, Philip Smith, William Douglas, Catherine Ann, Eliza Jane, Julia Ann, Matilda Antoinette, Mary Bachman, Frances Louisa, Adelaide, Cornelia Josephine and Martha Ellen. She was the fourth oldest of the thirteen children. She died at the age of 21 on February 27th, 1847 in , Hawkins, Tennessee.-
