Joseph Benjamin was born on June 24th, 1878 in Sullivan County, Tennessee. Joseph Benjamin's father was George Washington Droke and his mother was Christina Morton. His paternal grandparents were John Droke and Isabel Wolford. He had seven brothers and a sister, named William James, John Martin, Samuel Isaac, Marshal Elkanah, David Miller, Thomas Bruce, Charles Wolford and Susan Eleanor. He was the fourth youngest of the nine children.-
