Gonsalo Mendez's father was Mendo Venegas De Sousa and his mother was Teresa Fernandez De Marnelo. His paternal grandparents were Egas Gomez De Sousa and Gontina Gonsalez De Maya; his maternal grandparents were Fernando Gonsaalez De Marnelo and Urraca Gonsalez. He had a sister named Oroana. He died about 1180.
