Rufus G. was born on November 1st, 1856 in , , Tennessee. Rufus G.'s father was James Wilkerson Cox and his mother was Cornelia Abbela Hood. His paternal grandparents were James Cox and Sarah Collins. He had three brothers and four sisters, named James Knox Polk, Robert L., Emmons P. D., Ann, Mary, Sarah P. and Nancy C.. He was the second youngest of the eight children. He died at the age of 22 on October 2nd, 1879 in , Fannin, Texas.-
