Sarah's father was Thomas Cotton and her mother was Priscilla Knight. Her maternal grandparents were James Knight and Priscilla Carter. She had six brothers and three sisters, named Moore, Allen, Noah, John, Alexander, Arthur, Mary, Talitha and Elizabeth.-
