Sarah was born about 1761 in , Laurens, SC. Sarah's father was James Coker and her mother was Mary Aldridge. Her paternal grandparents were John Coker and Priscilla Geddings. She had six brothers and four sisters, named William, Calvin, Thomas, Robert, Drury, John, Hannah, Mary, Jeanette and Ann Amanda. She was the third youngest of the eleven children.-
