Thomas was born about 1779 in , Buckingham, Virginia.  Thomas' father was Lewis Christian and his mother was Margaret Felkner.  His paternal grandfather was Thomas Christian. He had five brothers and six sisters, named John, Allen, Lewis, James, William, Mary, Elizabeth, Nancy, Sarah, Margaret and Lucinda.  He was the second oldest of the twelve children.  He died in 1836.
