Samuel's father was William H. Chambers and his mother was Mary Hester Josie Tipsword. His paternal grandparents were William Chambers and Amy Sealock; his maternal grandparents were Griffin Tipsword and Elizabeth Banning. He had a brother and two sisters, named Harry, Bertha and Nellie.-
