Bertha's father was William H. Chambers and her mother was Mary Hester Josie Tipsword. Her paternal grandparents were William Chambers and Amy Sealock; her maternal grandparents were Griffin Tipsword and Elizabeth Banning. She had two brothers and a sister, named Harry, Samuel and Nellie.-
