John Carpenter 
John was born in 1842 in , Hawkins, Tennessee. John's father was Allen Carpenter and his mother was Sarah Altom. His paternal grandparents were Yelberton Carpenter and Hannah Allen; his maternal grandparents were William Altom and Katherine Price. He had nine brothers and five sisters, named Wilson, William, Wiley, Robert, James, Gabriel, Jack, George, Andrew, Mary, Jane, Rachel, Rachel and Martha. He was the second oldest of the fifteen children.-
