Burwell White was born on March 21st, 1836 in , Hawkins, Tennessee. Burwell White's father was Benjamin Ludwell Bussell and his mother was Mary Or Polly Sanders. His paternal grandparents were William Bussell and Sarah Wyatt. He had six brothers and three sisters, named George W., James M., John R., Calvin P., Benjamin Sanford, Absalom Tivis, Virinda Jane, Sarah Ann and Mary Ann. He was the third youngest of the ten children.-
