Nancy's father was Robert Brantley and her mother was Mary Rorie. Her paternal grandparents were Edward Brantley and Martha Pitman; her maternal grandfather was John Rorie. She had three brothers named James, John and William. She had two half-brothers and four half-sisters, named Robert, Thomas, Elizabeth, Sarah, Martha and Jane.-
