Edward was born on August 25th, 1798 in Halifax, North Carolina. Edward's father was Henry Bradford and his mother was Sara Crowell. His paternal grandparents were John Bradford Jr. and Patience Reed; his maternal grandparents were Edward Crowell and Martha. He had five brothers and four sisters, named Nathaniel, John, Thomas, Henry, Richard Henry, Martha, Elizabeth, Mary Crowell and Sarah. He was the second youngest of the ten children.-
