Henderson was born in 1866 in , Hawkins, Tennessee. Henderson's father was Christian Bloomer and his mother was Elizabeth Mitchell. His paternal grandparents were Isaac Bloomer and Nancy; his maternal grandparents were John J. Mitchell and Martha Lyons. He had four brothers named Thomas, Perry, John and Charles. He was the second youngest of the five children.-
