Gideon was born in Virginia. Gideon's father was Abraham Blessing and his mother was Catherine. His paternal grandparents were Jacob Blessing and Elizabeth Ritschart. He had four brothers and a sister, named Leander, John R., Abraham, Blessing and Blessing. He died in July 1835.-
