Elizabeth Ruffin was born in 1800 in , Halifax, North Carolina. Elizabeth Ruffin's father was Bartholomew Barrow and her mother was Ascension Slatter. Her paternal grandparents were William Barrow and Olivia Ruffin; her maternal grandparents were James Slatter and Charity. She had a half-brother and a half-sister, named David and Mary Anne. She died at the age of 22 in 1822.-
