Thomas Beirne was born on December 1st, 1822 in Second Creek, Greenbrier Co., VA. Thomas Beirne's father was Tristram "Trussie" PATTON and his mother was Jane 'Jean' NELSON . His paternal grandparents were John PATTON and Matilda Ann WIDEMAN. He had eight brothers and four sisters, named William Madison , James Nelson, Robert Miller , John J. , Washington Lafayette, Edwin Franklin, Columbus Marion , Sidney Ewing, Mary Brown, Elizabeth Simpson, Louisa Amelia and Nancy Nelson. He was the fifth youngest of the thirteen children.-
