William  was born in 1835 in VA.  William 's father was Farncis  HANSHAW and his mother was Mary Ann  ORBION. He had six brothers and two sisters, named Francis M. , John Jackson , Henry , Silas Smith, James , Perry, Sarah F.  and Minerva Ann .  He was the third oldest of the nine children.
