His paternal grandparents were William BLAND and Rachel Julia WARD. He had three brothers and seven sisters, named James (Jr), William , Francis Marion, Polly, Jane E. , Rachel, Nancy , Phoebe, Elizabeth and Minerva H. . He was the fourth oldest of the eleven children. He died at the age of 88 in 1892.General Notes
