Baudouin V the Pious was born in 1012 in Flanders, Normandy, France.1 Baudouin V the Pious' father was Baudouin IV "Fair Beard" Ct de Flanders and his mother was Ogive de Luxemburg. His paternal grandparents were Arnolph II Ct de Flanders and Rozela (Susanna) de Italia; his maternal grandparents were Friederich de Luxemburg Ct de Luxemburg and Ermentrude von Gleiburg. He had a sister named Ermengarde. He was the younger of the two children. He had a half-sister named Judith (Fausta). He died at the age of 55 on September 1st, 1067 in Lille, France.2 General Notes

Entered into hostilities with Emporer Otho II and aquired from that monarch
Valenciennes and the Isles of Zealand. He subseqently further increased his
territories by another rich accession, that of the citadel of Ghent.
ES II:5 gives only one wife to Baldwin namely Adelaide of France widow of
Richard III of Normandy.
