Enlisted 4th Virginia Calvary, Troop F (Goochland Light Dragoons) April 25, 1861 in Richmond by J. E. Johnson as a private for a period of 12 months. Captured 8/21/63 - held at Fort McHenry, Maryland. Paroled 4/22/1865 near Burkeville, Virginia - per "4th Virginia Calvary", Virginia Regimental Series, 2nd Edition & fiche of compiled military record.

Tombstone is Confederate veteran issue - inscribed John W. Randolph, 4th VA CAV, TR. F
