Jonas was born in 1822 in KilmacAbea, Ireland. Jonas' father was Rev Jonas Favers Jones and his mother was Catherine Webb. His maternal grandparents were Richard Webb and Eliza Browne. He had two brothers and a sister, named Harry, Richard and Eliza. He was the second youngest of the four children.-
