Tomasz was born on December 29th, 1857.  Tomasz's father was Marcin Manterys and his mother was Brygida Manterys (Krotlińska).  His paternal grandparents were Jacenty Manterys and Małgorzata Manterys (Żurek). He had three brothers and three sisters, named Józef, Walenty, Bartłomiej, Marianna, Katarzyna and Maryanna.  He was the youngest of the seven children.
