Yvonne was born on November 8th, 1914. Yvonne's father was Arthur Herman van Blerk and her mother was Dorothy Marchant (van Blerk). Her paternal grandparents were Hendrik Zerjakus van Blerk and Maria Elizabeth Magdalena van Blerk. She had a brother and three sisters, named Peter, June, Leila and Denise.
