Rozier Bernardus was born on June 15th, 1888 in Cape Town. Rozier Bernardus' father was Cornelis Johannes Hendrick van Blerk and his mother was Gertruida Fredrika Crossley (van Blerk). His paternal grandparents were Marthinus Samuel van Blerk and Elizabeth Susanna Johanna Frylinck (van Blerk). He had three brothers and five sisters, named John Henry, William John Jeremiah, Also called Sebastiaan Pieter van Blerk, Annie Henrietta, Catherine Cornelia, Catharina Cornelia, Gertrude Fredrika and Gertrude Marion Stocker.
