Catharina Magdalena was born in Kuils River. Catharina Magdalena's father was Frederik Andries Philip van Blerk and her mother was Catharina Magdalena le Roux. Her paternal grandparents were Johannes Everhadus van Blerk and Catharina Cornelia Margeretha van den Berg (van Blerk); her maternal grandparents were Barend le Roux and Maria Dorothea (le Roux). She had two brothers and three sisters, named Fredrick Abraham, Johannes Gerhardus, Christina Maria, Maria Dorothea and Rosaline Hendrika.-
