Josiah was born in 1790.  Josiah's father was Caleb Spinney and his mother was Abigail Cole Spinney.  His paternal grandparents were Nicholas Spinney and Alice Godsoe; his maternal grandparents were Ebenezer Spinney and Phebe Cole. He had a brother and a sister, named Nicholas and Mary.  He was the second oldest of the three children. He had two half-brothers and a half-sister, named Caleb, Charles and Margery.  He died at the age of 53 on August 23rd, 1843 in Kittery, York County, Maine.
