Benjamin Dow

Benjamin was born on February 23rd, 1810. Benjamin's father was Benjamin Dow and his mother was Tabitha Blake. His paternal grandparents were Nathan Dow and Elizabeth Batchelder. He had three brothers and eight sisters, named Sewell, Nathan, John, Polly, Myra, Tabitha, Eliza, Sarah, Lydia, Lucy and Abigail. He was the youngest of the twelve children. He died at the age of 50 on June 25th, 1860 in Gilford, Belknap County, New Hampshire.

General Notes
- Benjamin lived in Gilmanton, New Hampshire until after 1850. He then moved to Laconia, New Hampshire, where he began a successful career in teaching. In his middle years, he was afflicted with religious mania, from which he never recovered enough to resume teaching. A place was made for him as watchman on the Meredith bridge, and this he held for many years.
