Engel was born in June 1705 in Gotha and her baptism took place there on June 27th, 1705.  Engel's father was Johann Christoph Brandenburg and her mother was Maria Magdalena Seyfarth.  Her paternal grandparents were Hiskias Brandenburg and Magdalena Meuseman; her maternal grandparents were Johann Michael Seyfarth and <Unknown>. She had two brothers and three sisters, named Johann, Jacob, Martha, Barbara and Catharina.  She was the third oldest of the six children.  She died at the age of 64 on April 23rd, 1770 in Gotha.
