Sándor's father was János Körtvélyesi and his mother was Piroska Solymosi.  His paternal grandparents were Mátyás Körtvélyesi and Erzsébet Hugyik. He had a brother and a sister, named Mátyás and Mária.  He was the youngest of the three children.
