Mária was born in August 1892 in Bekecs 116 and her baptism took place on August 14th, 1892 in Szerencs.¹   Her godmother was Körtvélyesi Mária.

Mária's father was János Körtvélyesi and her mother was Julianna Répási.  Her paternal grandparents were János Körtvélyesi and Anna Milo/Vaszil. She had three brothers and a sister, named János, József, András and Julianna.  She was the second oldest of the five children.
