Lyla Mae Kempf, age 89, of Waupaca, passed away Tuesday, August 21 at Appleton Medical Center. She was born in Waupaca County on June 29, 1923, the daughter of August and Martha (Winske) Schmidt. On September 6, 1942, she was united in marriage to Arnold A. Kempf. He preceded her in death on April 26, 2010. Lyla worked several years as a housekeeper at Theda Clark. She enjoyed an array of activities including reading, doing puzzles, shopping, and traveling in her earlier years. She loved to socialize, but most of all, loved to spend time with her family. She will be dearly missed by her sons: Roger (Brenda) Kempf, Neenah; James Kempf, Waupaca; Walter Kempf, Oshkosh; daughter, Dawn Woller, Waukesha; grandchildren: Nancy (Mitch) Davidson, Jean Kempf (special friend Bill Damon), Lana Kempf (special friend Peter Fird), Donald (Angie) Kempf, John (Deb) Kempf, David Kempf; Amber, Samantha and Ryan Woller; great-grandchildren: Amanda, Ashley, Damian, Anna, Emma, Mariah, Louis, Danielle, and Carly. Lyla is further survived by nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by a daughter-in-law, Cindy Kempf as well as all of her brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law. The funeral service was held at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 25, 2012, at Emmaus Evangelical Lutheran Church, N180 Cty Rd A, Town of Lind. Pastor H. William Jordan officiated. The visitation was Friday evening from 4 - 8 p.m. at the Maple Crest Funeral Home and again on Saturday at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of the service. Burial took place at Lind Center Cemetery.
