QAS Commissioner Russell Bowles said he was honoured to yesterday dedicate a memorial to the memory of the victims of the 1958 Edungalba Aerial Ambulance crash. Mr Bowles was joined by the families of Ambulance Bearer James Tranent and the family of Pilot-Bearer Edward Farquhar McLeod. The Cessna carrying the two officers and two patients, Mrs Latus Josephine Shaw and Mr Thomas Geoffrey Rolls, crashed in heavy rain enroute to Rockhampton 55 years ago. Until yesterday the tragedy was marked on the site by a small plate attached to a tree. Mr Bowles said “QAS is proud to honour their memory with the dedication of this permanent memorial.” “QAS would like to pass on special thanks to the Tranent and McLeod families for attending and to the Horspool family, who still own the property of Rosedale where the Cessna crashed. The Horspool family have been kind enough to allow the erection of this permanent memorial to those killed on their family property.” Mr Horspool (deceased) was one of the first people on the scene of the crash in 1958.
