Frans was born on July 31st, 1952. Frans' father was Frans Jacobus Winterbach and his mother was Susanna (Fien) Magrieta Jacoba Kruger. His paternal grandparents were Dirk (Rooi Dirk) Jacobus Winterbach and Anna Catharina Maria Beetge. He has three brothers and two sisters, named Dirk, Kobus, Theo, Magrietha and Anna. He is the third oldest of the six children.-
