Henry was born in 1846.  Henry's father was John W.  Shields and his mother was Elizabeth Kemp.  His maternal grandparents were Henry Kemp and Harriett Bradley. He had a brother and two sisters, named John, Mary and Margaret.  He was the oldest of the four children.
