Diego was born in 1566. Diego's father was Pedro I. Castro de Portugal, de and his mother was Teresa de Bobadilla Cueva y de la Cerda, de la. His paternal grandparents were Fernando-Ruiz I. Castro de Portugal, de and Teresa Andrada y Ulloa, de. He had three brothers and a sister, named Andre, Pedro, Rodrigo and Mencia. He had two half-brothers and three half-sisters, named Fernando Ruiz II., Beltrao, Mencia, Teresa and Isabella. He died at the age of 17 in 1583 in Alcala.
