Jan Josef was born in 1773.  Jan Josef's father was Jan Kryštof Boøek Dohalský z Dohalic and his mother is Salomena BÌŠIN, Z.  His paternal grandparents are Kryštof Lipolt Boøek Dohalský z Dohalic and Polyxena Františka Èernínová. He had six brothers and four sisters, named Jan František, Jan Václav, Jan Antonín, Jan Kryštof, Jan Adam, Marie Eliška, Marie Barbora, Marie Ludmila, Marie Anna and Marie Josefa.  He died at the age of 8 in 1781.
