Amalie was born in 1863. Amalie's father was Ludwig Holnstein, von and her mother was Henriette Malsburg, von der. Her paternal grandparents were Karl Theodor Holnstein, von and Karoline Ezdorf, von. She had two brothers and four sisters, named Karl, Ernst, Karola, Henriette, Ida and Albertine. She was the second youngest of the seven children. She died at the age of 82 in 1945.
