Brites was born in 1434. Brites' father was Fernando I. Braganca, de and her mother was Joana Castro, de. Her paternal grandparents were Affonso I. Braganca, de and Brites Pereira; her maternal grandfather is Joao Castro, de. She had five brothers and three sisters, named Fernando II. "the African", Joao, Alvaro, Affonso I., Antonio, Isabella, Catarina and Guiomar. She died at the age of 28 in 1462.
