Rani's father was Krishna Rao Sammeta and her mother was Shakuntala (Vallabha) Sammeta.  Her maternal grandparents were Veera Venkaiah Naidu Vallabha and Kanakamma (Pujamma) Vallabha. She had two brothers and two sisters, named Murali Mohan, Ganesh, Maruthi and Buddu.  She was the oldest of the five children.  She died due to a medical problem.
