Martin was born in 1851.  Martin's father was Martin Tracey and his mother was Catherine Dowling.  His paternal grandparents were Patrick Tracey and Bridget Keane. He had five brothers and two sisters, named Richard, Patrick, John, Andrew, Thomas, Mary and Kathleen.  He was the third youngest of the eight children.  He died at the age of 84 in 1935.
