Bertalan was born in 1949.  Bertalan's father was István D. Horváth and his mother was Rebeka Székely.  His maternal grandparents were Gyula Székely and Eszter Székely. He had three brothers and six sisters, and also three siblings of unknown gender, named Ernő, István, Zoltán, Rebeka, Irén, Júlia, Piroska, Vilma, Erzsébet, <Unknown>, <Unknown> and <Unknown>.  He died at the age of 51 in 2000.
