Viscounts Hereford was born in 1550. Viscounts Hereford's father was Robert Devereux (3rd Earl of Essex, 4th Visc. Hereford) and his mother was Frances Howard. His paternal grandparents were Robert Devereux (2nd Earl of Essex, 3rd Visc. Hereford) and Frances Walsingham; his maternal grandparents were Thomas Howard (1st Earl of Suffolk) and Catherine Knyvet.
