Adam's father was Ivone de Kirkpatrick and his mother was Euphemia de Brus.  His paternal grandfather was William de Kirkpatrick; his maternal grandparents were Robert de Brus (2nd Lord of Annandale) and Euphemia le Gros.  He was an only child.
